It all happened very quickly and kind of by accident. It was a normal day, I was just casually scrolling through my Instagram feed when I stumbled across a photo of an adorable orange puppy whose eyes were just a little too close together. I'm not sure what came over me but I decided to comment and ask if the dog needed a foster. I really didn't think anything would come of it, but one thing led to another and two days later the orange puppy was delivered to my door.
His name was Kwan and he was a 5 month old Jindo/Corgi mix rescued from a high kill shelter in Korea. He was the most timid and scared puppy I had ever seen in my life. I took him everywhere with me. He came with me to work, the gym, my boyfriend's house, and anywhere they'd let a dog in. It was a slow process, but over the next few weeks he started to trust me more and more. I only had him for about 5 weeks before he went to his forever home, and while he still had a lot to overcome, the progress he made while I had him was pretty amazing to see and be a part of.
My experience with Kwan and all the other dogs I've fostered since then have inspired me to do more. Since I can't go out and rescue all the dogs myself, I hope to do as much as I can to support the rescues out there who can. I'm not exactly sure how I'm going to do that yet, but for now my plan is start a clothing brand with designs inspired by all these awesome dogs that need your help and donate the earnings to the rescues out there that rely on support from volunteers/donations.
That being said, I'm not really sure how starting a clothing brand works logistically, i.e. finding printers, sourcing clothes, setting up an ecommerce site and actually selling/shipping things to people, but I plan on documenting my progress along the way as I figure it out. Feel free to follow along. Hopefully documenting my process will be helpful to someone else in a similar boat down the road.
